Nesiya: Israel Programs for Israeli and American Teens
Community Service Fellowship

Fellowship Terms and Descriptions

The following summarizes the basic terms of Nesiya fellowships, and describes various available options for fulfilling fellowship obligations.

(Note:  If you are an alumni who has already received fellowship money from Nesiya, please click here to learn about the fellowship obligations.)

Fellowship Terms

The first $1500 of any financial aid awarded by The Nesiya Institute takes the form of a fellowship award. This includes Early Application Fellowships. To receive a fellowship, participants must agree to design and fulfill a series of volunteer, study, and enrichment activities upon their return home. If fellowship obligations are not completed in the agreed time, parents assume responsibility for repaying Nesiya.

Graduating sophomores have a two-year period to fulfill their fellowship obligations, but must fulfill at least half of their obligation within the first year after the program. Graduating juniors and seniors have one year to fulfill their obligations.

Nesiya Institute Fellows are required to find an advisor from your local community who will work with you to plan how you will fulfill your Fellowship Obligation, and who will support you in fulfilling your fellowship responsibilities.

There are three categories of programs and activities that are eligible for fellowship credit: "Sharing Your Israel Experience", "Building on Your Experience in Israel", and "Contributing to Your Community Through Service."

Nesiya alumni are required to fulfill fellowship obligations by participating in some activities from all three of the above categories.

Fellowship activities are valued at $10 per hour. The total "value in hours" that Fellows must fulfill is calculated by dividing the total fellowship award by the rate of $10 per hour. If, for example, you received a $300 fellowship award, you are responsible for completing activities that are valued at 30 hours.

Fellowship Descriptions

The following provides you with suggestions for some of the different kinds of activities in each of the three fellowship categories that you may participate in to fulfill your Nesiya Institute Fellowship Obligation. To fulfill your fellowship obligation you are required to participate in activities from all three categories. This is by no means a complete list of possible activities. We encourage you to be creative in developing your own ideas for activities. Please contact us to determine if an activity may be used towards fulfilling your Fellowship Obligation.
