Financial Support from Nesiya (Need and Merit-Based)

Nesiya provides generous financial support based on demonstrated financial need and/or merit. Nesiya staff works closely with families to provide as much support as possible. The first $1,500 of all Nesiya financial awards (both need and merit-based) carries specific Nesiya fellowship requirements, including the fulfillment of a Nesiya Community Internship in an education or non-profit agency in the participant's home community during the year following participation in the summer program. Any additional support above $1,500 awarded by Nesiya is a grant, for which no follow-up obligations are necessary.

Fellowship obligations are broken down as follows: The first $1,000 of any Nesiya financial award (need or merit based) obligates the participant to fulfill an approved Nesiya Community Internship (for information on how specific Community Internship requirements are calculated, please the description of Nesiya Community Internships). If an applicant receives between $1,000 and $1,500 from Nesiya, s/he is required to fulfill a Community Internship and, in addition, repay a maximum of $500 through approved fellowship activities. For more information, please see a list of approved Nesiya fellowship activities and equivalent credits in the Fellowship Terms & Descriptions.

Each year, approximately 75% of Kehillah Experience alumni participate in Nesiya Community Internships and Additional Fellowship Activities, which they design in consultation with Nesiya staff. Credit toward fulfilling the Additional Fellowship Activities can be earned through a wide-range of different activities, including participating in the annual Nesiya Winter Retreat. If fellowship obligations are not completed in the agreed time period, parents assume responsibility for repaying part or all of the sum to The Nesiya Institute.

Need-Based Financial Support:

Need-based scholarship decisions are based on the submission of a financial aid form, the program application, and a Community Internship Proposal. All need-based applicants are also required to seek support from local sources. Please contact Nesiya if you need help identifying sources of funding in your community. To apply for need-based financial assistance, please complete and submit the Nesiya financial aid form and the Community Internship Proposal. Nesiya financial awards are finalized only after applicants and their parents sign a fellowship contract prior to the beginning of the summer program.

To apply for need-based financial assistance, please submit the Nesiya financial aid form and Community Internship Proposal with your summer program application, which can be downloaded or requested from the Nesiya office.

Merit-Based Financial Support:

Nesiya offers a number of fellowship awards based only on merit. All requests for Nesiya merit-based awards require submission of a Nesiya Community Internship Proposal with the Nesiya program application.

Nesiya offers a limited number of $1,000 Nesiya Community Internship Awards. Nesiya Community Interns are selected on the basis of the program application, references, and submission of a Nesiya Community Internship Proposal which outlines a significant volunteer service project in an existing non-profit or educational agency. Recipients of the Community Internship Awards are required to fulfill a 60-hour Nesiya Community Internship during the academic year following participation in the Nesiya summer program. To apply for a Nesiya Community Internship Award, please submit a Nesiya Community Internship Proposal, indicating on the form that you are applying for a merit-based Community Internship Award.

Nesiya currently offers other merit-based awards, of varying amounts, to:
alumni of select peer programs (ie. Genesis, Bima, Panim, Etgar 36);
current or past applicants to the Bronfman Youth Fellowships in Israel; and,
special fellowships to young people who live in specific regions of the US and Israel, currently including Cleveland, OH; Massachusetts State; Washington State; Metro New York; the CA Bay Area and Cincinnati, OH.

Please contact the Nesiya office for updated information about merit-based fellowships for which teens in different regions may be eligible.

Please note: Nesiya merit-based awards can not be combined with one another; you will receive the highest award for which you are eligible.
