Application FAQ

When is the deadline for sending in my application?

The official deadline to apply to Nesiya's Kehillah 2008 is April 15, 2008 but we recommend taking advantage of our early application deadlines. There are THREE Early Application Deadlines:

• If your application is postmarked by December 3, 2007, you can qualify for a $500 Early Application Fellowship.
• If your application is postmarked by February 4, 2008, you can qualify for a $350 Early Application Fellowship.
• If your application is postmarked by March 17, 2008, you can qualify for a $250 Early Application Fellowship.

How do I apply for financial assistance?

Nesiya provides various types of financial assistance:
• The first type of award is the Early Application Fellowship, based on the date of application submission. See above for Early Application dates and amounts.
The second type of financial assistance is need-based. In order to qualify for need-based financial assistance, submit a completed financial aid form with your application. Financial aid is awarded on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying early to ensure the availability of necessary funding. Nesiya also encourages families to look locally for funding from synagogues, Jewish Community Centers and Jewish Federations, in addition to seeking assistance from Nesiya. Please contact us to help you identify sources of funding in your community.
The final type of financial assistance, the Nesiya Community Fellows Award, is merit-based (see below).

What are Nesiya Fellowship Awards?

Nesiya fellowships, both Early Application Fellowships and other need-based awards, provide financial support towards your summer in Israel. By accepting a fellowship, participants agree, with the support of their parents, to design and fulfill a series of volunteer, study, and enrichment activities upon their return home. Fellowship activities are flexible and may include speaking about the summer, attending the Nesiya Winter Retreat doing community service, or other activities that build on your experiences in Israel. If fellowship obligations are not completed in the agreed time, parents assume responsibility for repaying The Nesiya Institute.

Can I receive a merit-based fellowship award?

Merit-based awards are available through the Nesiya Community Fellows Award. This award is available to a limited number of participants based on the submission of the Community Fellows Award Application. Click here for more information about the merit-based Community Fellows award, or contact the Nesiya office.

Should I mail a deposit with my application?

A $200 deposit (checks or money orders only please) must be enclosed with your full application. If this fee presents a hardship, please contact the Nesiya Office at (212) 951-7128.

What if I live in Canada?

Canadian residents, please contact the Nesiya Office at (212) 951-7128 to discuss tuition and financial aid.

What is Nesiya's refund policy?

Should a student choose to withdraw from the program prior to May 1, 2008, Nesiya offers a refund of all monies paid, less the $200 non-refundable deposit. After May 1, a withdrawal charge of $1,500 will be assessed; after June 1 until the day of departure, a withdrawal charge of $2,500 will be assessed. Parents must notify the Nesiya Institute in writing in order to request a refund.

Exceptions to these refund terms apply to financial aid applicants who may withdraw from the program and receive a full refund. Specifically, participants who have been accepted to The Nesiya Institute Kehillah Experience 2008, have applied for financial support on the basis of financial need and received an offer of support, may decide that they cannot participate, in which case they will receive a full refund. Exceptions to these terms may be requested in writing.

The Nesiya Institute retains the right to determine what refund, if any, will be provided to students who withdraw after the commencement of The Nesiya Institute Kehillah Experience 2008. No refund whatsoever will be given for any participant who is expelled from the program.

Nesiya is different because it isn’t just touring Israel, its experiencing it. It is more than just seeing the country or making friends; Nesiya is about community, adventure, and reflection.
