Creative Study of Jewish Texts
Nesiya assumes that the study of Jewish texts is essential to the exploration of
Judaism and Israel. Creative text study is, therefore, a critical component in
Nesiya programs. Participants explore the relevance of modern and traditional
Jewish texts through dialogue, chevruta study and small group study, storytelling,
theater improv, and other creative activities. While the program offers no "right" answers,
approaches, or conclusions, Nesiya encourages participants to take Jewish texts seriously,
and develop their skills as "close" as well as "creative" readers, keeping their minds open
to new possibilities and interpretations.

“I would not be in Rabbinical school if it
weren't for Nesiya. Many of my most positive Jewish experiences happened at
Nesiya – moments of transcendent singing and transcendent thought. I've had essential
conversations that solidified my commitments to Judaism, Jewish law, Israel, and
art.”
