Charles Herman, M. Ed.,
Founder and Executive Director
Charles has led Nesiya since its inception in 1985. He earned his B.A. degree in Comparative Literature from Brown University and a Masters of Education degree from Harvard University
in Counseling and Consulting Psychology. He also studied in Jerusalem at the Hebrew University and the Pardes Institute.
Charles has also worked with delinquent boys in New York City, as a photographer in Bali, Indonesia, and with Jewish education agencies in Chicago and Cleveland. Charles lives in Jerusalem with his wife Dina and four sons.

Tami Dayan, CFO / COO
Tami has led Nesiya's U.S. and Israel operations since 2004. A native of Tzfat, Tami earned certificates in teaching and tour guiding prior to beginning studies at the Hebrew University, where she earned her B.A. in Finance and Psychology, and an International Collegiate Baccalaureate degree in Social Sciences from Thomas Edison State College. Prior to joining Nesiya, Tami worked for five years as a project manager and comptroller at a high-tech company based in Israel and California.

Recruitment and Communications

Rachael Brill, Manager of Recruitment and Community Outreach
Rachael Brill joined Nesiya in 2010 leading recruitment efforts in North
America.
She graduated from Tufts University with a B.A. in Political Science and has also studied at Tel Aviv University.
Rachael previously promoted eco-friendly transportation with the Green Streets Initiative, worked within the
communications department of the Public Conversations Project, and co-authored a
book on college destinations. She currently lives in New York City.

Sam Cohen, Communications Associate
Sam has dreamed of working for Nesiya since he went on the Kehillah Experience
in 2007, and is thrilled that this dream has become a reality. Sam was born in
Philadelphia, grew up in Maine, and is now a student at New York University,
studying Applied Psychology (with minors in Jewish Studies and Web Programming).
He is also an avid photographer. Sam lives in New York City.

Rabbi Zvi Hirschfield,
M.A., Senior Educator and Master Teacher
Zvi has worked with Nesiya programs in North America and Israel since 1994, as a senior educator,
master teacher, and curriculum writer. He is also a full-time faculty member at the Pardes Institute for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. Zvi earned a B.A. in Jewish Studies from Columbia University, an M.A. in Jewish Studies from Harvard University, and has studied at Yeshivat Har Etzion. He has rabbinic ordination from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. He lives in Alon Shvut with his wife Dena and four children.

Leah Solomon, Associate Director
Since joining Nesiya in 2003, Leah oversees all aspects of Nesiya programs and
also supports communications and development. Leah worked previously at the Gann Academy in Boston and at the Genesis program at Brandeis University. She holds a B.A. in Jewish Studies from Harvard University, and has studied at the Conservative Yeshiva, the Hartman Institute, and the Pardes Institute. Leah and her husband Elisha Klein live in Jerusalem with their
two sons.

Marva Tovia,
Coordinator
of Programs for Israelis
Marva, originally from Kibbutz Hamadia, a secular kibbutz in northern Israel, has worked with Nesiya since 2006 as a counselor-educator and head counselor-educator
on the Nesiya summer program, the year-round program in Israel, and programs
for Jewish day school students.
She also teaches Jewish Thought and History
at the Ziv School in Jerusalem. Marva
holds a B.A. in Jewish Studies from the Hebrew University
and recently received an M.A. in Contemporary Jewry through Revivim,
a Hebrew University honors program for emerging Jewish educators.

Michal Samuels, Administrative Manager
Michal, an Israeli Nesiya Seminar '99 alumna, returned to Israel and joined the
Nesiya staff in 2011 after receiving her AAS Degree in Culinary
Arts at Kendall College in Chicago, and working in restaurant and hospitality management for several years. She has a background in camp counseling and teaching in Jewish communities in North America,
and did extensive volunteer work with at-risk children in the south side of Chicago. Michal lives in Jerusalem.

Eti Rivlin, Bookkeeper
Eti Rivlin joined the Nesiya staff in 2005 as a part-time bookkeeper. She began her career working in typesetting and printing and then, after studying bookkeeping at Ort, she became a bookkeeper and has worked in bookkeeping for twenty years. Prior to joining Nesiya, she worked for a number of years in the accounting department at the Jerusalem Post. Eti has
three grown children and two granddaughters, and lives in Jerusalem with her husband Yuval.

Reuben Posner,
National Fellowship Manager
Reuben, a Nesiya '99 alumnus, joined the Nesiya staff in the U.S. in 2011 as National Fellowship Manager,
and Regional Coordinator in
Massachusetts and New York.
He graduated from Brandeis University with a B.A. in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and Psychology and
received an M.Ed. from Harvard University in Learning and Teaching.
Reuben previously worked for Hillel and the Jewish Education Project (formerly BJENY-SAJES) and spent a year living in Mumbai,
India with his wife serving as community educators at the local JCC. Reuben lives in Cambridge, MA.

Joy Maimon, Washington Regional Coordinator
Joy has been working with Nesiya since 2009 as coordinator for the Nesiya Washington State
Regional Fellowship program. Joy has a B.A. from the University of Washington in Jewish Studies and has studied with Hebrew College.
She has also worked at the Seattle Hebrew Academy and has taught at the
Community High School of Jewish studies. She is active as a volunteer in several
communal organizations. Joy lives in Seattle with her husband and three
children.
