The Kehillah Fellows Project:
Academic-Year Program for Israelis

The Kehillah Fellows Project is an academic-year supplementary program for secular and religious Israeli high school students, which combines community service, creative text study, and retreats. The project brings together Nesiya summer program alumni fulfilling their mandatory one-year fellowship commitment with other Israeli high school students. The project expanded this year to over 100 participants in Jerusalem, Be'er Sheva, Beit Shean, and Ashdod. Together these young people will fulfill 7,800 hours of community service activities over the 2006-7 academic year.

At the end of the summer, I was very excited to begin my year-long community service project with Nesiya. Now I see community service as both an obligation and something I have fun doing. Israel is not in the best social state, and I feel obligated as someone with a “better life” to help other people and to give them as much as I can.
